Biography Decorative designer and lithographer. Born in Paris as the son of Dutch and Belgian parents. Active in Amsterdam 1886-1889. In 1890 went to Paris, studied under Jules Cheret and adopted the name 'de Feure'. His poster designs and illustrations attracted the attention of Siegfried Bing.

The gate in question, La Porte des Rêves (1899), is a collection of stories by Symbolist writer Marcel Schwob, illustrated in its first edition by Georges de Feure (1868-1943). The collection is actually a kind of "best of Schwob", being compiled from stories which had already appeared a few years before in other collections.
